WINNETKA, Ill., May 18, 2012 – New Trier High School senior Carolyn Arden of Winnetka received the second annual Wilbert F. Crowley Citizenship Award, named for retired New Trier Township Democratic Committeeman Wilbert “Bill” Crowley. The non-partisan honor is presented by New Trier Democrats to a student who displays exemplary qualities of leadership and public service.

         As a freshman at New Trier’s Northfield campus, Ms. Arden became a leader in Names Can Really Hurt You, an anti-bullying program now presented each year. She continued involvement on the Winnetka campus developing a Pledge program raising student awareness about respecting differences.

         Ms. Arden has also taken leadership roles in New Trier’s Peer Mediation activities, facilitating students in conflict. As a senior board member, she focused on Peer Helping, a prevention program stressing communication and group leadership.

         The Crowley Award committee said:  “Carolyn Arden’s tireless efforts to create a safe environment for New Trier students exemplifies citizenship at its best.”  This fall, she'll attend Washington University in St. Louis to study engineering.
