Prescription Drug Disposal Program Moved to Police Station

  • May 23, 2011

If you’ve got expired or unwanted prescriptions cluttering up your medicine cabinet, the police are looking for you. The 24-hour, 7-days-a-week disposal containers have been moved from Wilmette Village Hall to the police station.

Below is a message from the Village of Wilmette:

For your safety and the safety of the environment, it is important to dispose of unused medications in a proper manner. Many pharmaceutical drugs discarded in the garbage or flushed in the toilet pass through the treatment process unchanged. As an alternative to previously described disposal methods, the Village has provide a safe and secure place to bring in unused over-the-counter and prescription drugs.

To better meet your needs, a new location and time has been provided to drop off your prescription drugs. The Village is now requesting that discarded over-the-counter and prescription drugs be dropped off at the Police Department at 710 Ridge Road. You may drop items off at your convenience 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Please remember to place liquid medication in a sealed plastic bag. Do not bring institutional or business waste, non-prescription liquids, latex gloves, medication with alcohol in it, or household chemical waste. Medication are to be in the original container with labels to identify contents. However, the patient's name may be blackened out or removed.
