As is tradition every year before Thanksgiving, Wilmette Community Nursery School (WCNS) will be running its canned food drive to benefit families of Family Focus in Evanston. This year, the food drive will run from November 12-16. All donations to the food drive can be dropped off at Wilmette Community Nursery School at 1125 Wilmette Avenue, Wilmette. At the end of the week, volunteer WCNS families take all goods to Family Focus in Evanston, where they are made available to families with emergency food needs. In the past, we have found that allowing the children to choose the food items to share is a very concrete way to give them a sense that he/she is truly helping others. At WCNS, we believe in the mission of Family Focus and invite our families to give back to the community through the food drive in whatever way they can.
The mission of Family Focus is to promote the well-being of children from birth by supporting and strengthening their families in and with their communities. Their community-based support services build upon families’ inherent strengths. Family Focus works alongside parents to ensure that all children have the best possible start in life, believing that parents are a child's first, best teachers and that healthy families are essential to strong, vibrant communities.
