2012 High School Scholarships
WILMETTE, Ill., June 7, 2012 – The Wilmette Rotary Club awarded 2012 scholarships to five outstanding students from New Trier, Loyola Academy and Regina Dominican High Schools. The ceremony was attended by winning students, parents and Rotary Club members.
For 31 years, Wilmette Rotary has honored local students with academic and sports scholarships. Nominations come from college counselors who praise these students for leadership, responsibility, work ethic, creativity and humility.
New Trier High School winners include Sarah Ambrose, known for soccer, refugee relief, inner-city tutoring and Skokie Lagoon clean-ups. She plans a sports medicine or physical therapy career. Christian Carr won the Rotary Jack Lehmann award for work in a soup kitchen, church youth group and as an election judge. He’ll study business, engineering or architecture at the University of California.
Regina Dominican winner Shannon Kraemer speaks Spanish and led service-oriented missions to Guatemala, Mexico and Haiti. She’ll study business, econometrics or chemical engineering at the University of Notre Dame.
Loyola Academy winners are Michelle Ricolcol, a superb athlete, musician and camp counselor for underprivileged children in West Virginia. Paige Affinito is a violinist, orchestra member, young musician tutor and volunteer classroom teacher for toddlers in Chicago.
The Wilmette Rotary Club was founded in 1924 and conducts international, community, vocational and club service projects through various committees.
