Baseball: Despite their low sectional seed and a sub-.500 record, Loyola proved that they belong among the state’s elite teams. The Ramblers upset Notre Dame, 6-0, in the regional semifinals behind the dominant pitching of Jack Richmond, who threw a complete-game three-hit shutout. Richmond struck out seven batters in seven innings for Loyola. John Rafferty was the offensive hero, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run and three RBIs.

Loyola came back the next day and handed Glenbrook South, the Central Suburban League South champion, only its ninth loss of the season, 8-2. The Ramblers again got great pitching, this time from Danny Rafferty, who threw a complete game and struck out 13 batters. Max Hogan went 2-for-4 with a  double, home run and five RBIs.

But the Ramblers’ run would end on Thursday in the sectional semifinals as Glenbrook North’s Peter Resnick threw a no-hitter in a 3-0 Spartan victory.

Softball: Loyola’s season ended in the regional final with a 9-0 loss to No. 1 sectional seed New Trier last weekend. The Ramblers edged Resurrection, 6-5, in the regional semifinals the day before, but couldn’t get past the Trevians.

Rachel Lang went 2-for-4 and had the game-winning, two-run double for Loyola against Resurrection.

The Ramblers finished the season with a record of 12-19.

Girls Soccer: Loyola finally got redemption last week, beating New Trier, 2-0, in the sectional final. Carrie Schoeneberger scored in the first five minutes of the game and Meeghan Smith put another one in just before halftime to give the Ramblers a commanding lead.

Loyola’s season would end unexpectedly in the Super-Sectional with a 1-0 loss to Conant. The Ramblers had numerous scoring chances, but couldn’t put one away. It was the Ramblers’ only loss on the year as they finished the season with a record of 24-1-3.

Girls Lacrosse: Loyola cruised past Libertyville, 18-4, in the semifinals to set up a championship game matchup with Hinsdale Central. 

Boys Track and Field: Loyola’s three qualifiers finished their season at the state championships last weekend.

Senior Jeff Toraason, who won the sectional title despite dealing with a hamstring injury, recorded no height in the high jump preliminaries.  Junior Todd Ford finished in ninth place in the 1600-meter run, crossing the line in 4 minutes, 31.72 seconds.  Junior William Hague took 28^th overall in the 3200 with a time of 9:43.36.  

Boys Lacrosse: Loyola keeps cruising through the playoffs on its quest to end New Trier’s six-year run as state champions. The No. 1 seed Ramblers beat Wheaton Warrenville South, 13-4, on Tuesday in the Illinois High School Lacrosse Association quarterfinals.
