Maple Syrup Vandalism and a Hoodwinked Sitter

A look at weird crimes in our Patch region.

Trick or trashed

A Palatine Halloween decoration display in front of a home had several figurines thrown to the ground and 10 Halloween masks stolen. The loss is estimated at $250.

You just can't find good people to employ you nowadays

A Wilmette woman told police that she contacted Comcast to get cable television but was informed that an account had already been opened in her name. The cable company told the woman the street address belonging to the account that had used her name and social security number, and the woman told police she believes that a woman for whom she used to babysit had opened the account.

It's what's on the inside that counts

A woman in Palatine reported that she left her purse in a shopping cart and drove away from a grocery store. When she realized she had left her purse, she went back to the store and discovered her $10 purse with $500 in cash inside all were taken.

First rule of Waffle Club, you never talk about Waffle Club

A Wilmette man told police that after someone rang the doorbell to his home, he went to the front door and noticed maple syrup had been thrown on a glass door. An officer reported later recovering and empty maple syrup bottle from the front lawn of the residence.

I may be misreading, but in the Comcast case, isn't it the babysitter's _employer_ who committed the crime, not the babysitter?

"a woman for whom she used to babysit had opened the account."

confusing..i agree...it says "you can't find good people to employ you"...meaning the employer...I didn't think you had to give your SS# to babysit, but then it's been many many years since I needed that issue..

I love the titles. Especially "First rule of Waffle Club, you never talk about Waffle Club." Good one - Lol.
