New Trier Alum Pulls Prank on Fox News
Glencoe native Max Rice was featured on 'Fox & Friends' as an unemployed college graduate who is changing his vote from Barack Obama to Mitt Romney, which is not true.
Max Rice was supposed to provide a face to a Fox News story about disenfranchised young American voters; instead the New Trier alum pulled a prank on national television, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Gretchen Carlson of Fox & Friends introduced Rice as having voted for Obama in 2008, but now unemployed will be changing his support by voting for Mitt Romney in the upcoming presidential election.
When Carlson asked why Rice will be voting for Romney, the Glencoe native replied, “It’s actually a funny story. I lost a basketball game to a friend of mine … who’s a huge supporter of this show.”
Watch the interview in the video by clicking above.
Rice failed to answer the questions directly and Carlson ends up ending the interview by telling him, "I'm not sure you're ready for prime time."
It turns out the 20-year-old is actually a current Columbia College student who was not even old enough to vote in 2008, according to CBS Chicago.
“I don’t care if there’s any negative press about me. I think there’s a greater issue,” Rice told Talking Points Memo. “Our media should be a tool to educate the masses, instead of getting ratings and selling Cheetos. This is proof.”
The New Trier alum was elected president of his 2010 senior class, according to the Chicago Tribune.

I don't think our media is the real tool in this tale.

What a crock...... This is nothing more than an entitled kid whose father is a master manipulator. He is the perfect example of a helicopter kid with a hovering parent who has shielded his kid from any adversity. The result is a kid who feels it is his right to do as he pleases and his dishonesty is ok as long as there is a rationalization... In his own mind, that is! I have seen this family at work with the Trevian kids football program and this does not surprise me one bit. Columbia College? Couldn't pull off your manipulation with college admissions at a school of stature? Forget stature, a mid level academic institution?

Bill Bufacto, what a nasty self-serving post. Seems like your comment is way too personal for a public airing. I know this family too and disagree with everything you said.

I saw this interview on Fox News. You could tell this Max fellow thought he was cute and entertaining, Gretchen Carlson helped him out by stopping the interview in short order so he wouldn't continue to embarrass himself . This behavior seemed to me what a twelve year old boy would think is funny. I was surprised to learn he is twenty years old!

I am familiar with Max and his dad from NS jr Trevian Football. Max, as with youth football, it appears that Daddy was the one who made sure you were put in the key positions and took care of you. Maybe if you had to earn things in life you would't have the desire to embarrass an entire community. This makes the Northshore look a group of spoiled brats who are given everything. What happened to you Max? Did you become a star football player? Did you go to a top university? Maybe if Daddy didn't cradle you, there wouldn't be the desire to go on national TV and look like a jerk. Not a very good representation of the type of children we are raising in our community.

...just another spoiled North Shore brat doing as he wishes. Why don't you go to Afghanistan & meet some of your piers.

I'd hardly call this a "prank." HE'S the one who comes off like a total nut. And he was class president?? What an embarrassment for New Trier.

I’ll bet Max thought this was worthwhile or even funny. Another entitled loser who can’t get into a worthwhile school and will probably be living off of his helicopter parents well into his 30’s or 40’s Well with the internet at least we now know who not to hire if he come knocking on our door. Laugh on Max, you were the joke. People were laughing at you not with you.

He wasn't even funny. At least if you are going to something like that, be funny. You know what's funny? The name "Max." Say it a few times and you too will find it pretty amusing. I know I would never hire anyone named "Max." It sounds like a child's nickname. "Max." Max from Glencoe. Hahahahahaha.

Are you kidding me? Fox News just got Punked. It just shows us that Fox News isn't actually a News show. What is up with all the hate towards North Shore as well? Look, the kid showed a creative side that fooled the people on the show and was able to get onto a national news show. Everybody should just cool down, getting punk'd is nothing new. I also resent the name calling and NorthShore negative label, the posters are acting less mature than Max.

This just shows that the media DOES NOT DO THEIR RESEARCH as they use to do when "news use to be news". Fact checking people, check the facts before you believe a "respectable" news source. You are being fed what they want you to hear. I believe this kid made a laughing stock out of Fox News. What's to say that they have run other stories that "appeared" legit and they were just a farce as this was.............and YOU may have believed them????? Check the facts people because apparently the media doesn't. Good job on the prank and shame on you Fox News for not verifying your sources.

Max, I'll bet you say all the right things at parties about how you want to save the world but probably roll up the window when the streetwalker approaches for 50 cents. And you'll definitely cheat like crazy on your taxes when you get older. You're the new liberal. Talks a huge game and sits on the bench. You're a dope.

If your performance is indicative of your public speaking and acting ability, my advice is don't quit your day job. Even if your actions were acceptable, which I believe most have condemned here, you have absolutely no talent. I know that Columbia College of Chicago takes any high school graduate with a pulse, but they should have standards for a minimum of creative talent. I mean, a 2.0 GPA and a 18 on the ACT gets you in, but shouldn't you have some upside for theatrics based on your major? Maybe daddy can put your latest endeavor up on his football web site to help with the plummeting numbers and you can get a boost on the "inferior" competition. You have learned well by studying at the knee of your self serving dad and the load that he shovels every day in his league. Glad we are no longer there, as are the dozens of folks who left that mess.

I was embarrassed for this young man and uncomfortable watching his skittish behavior. He wasn't funny and I don't get the point. Hard to believe he was elected as Class President at New Trier. Glad Gretchen Carlson caught on and closed the interview.

New Trier (and district parents) is so quick to paint itself as academic elite and yet it produced this chucklehead as 2010 class president. Max came across as silly, narcissistic, and airheaded. What an embarrassment! My kids also went to New Trier but, thankfully, aren't as dimwitted as this light bulb.

I feel sad for Max and embarrassed for the Wilmette community. My son is a student and New Trier and heard about Max's "great prank." My son leaned about this as school and found it funny. He is a sophomore so it helps to explain his perspective. Sadly, Max is not. After watching the sophomoric video with Max acting not like the adult he is but like an immature adolescent, I sat down with my son to remind him about integrity and character. I explained to him that a con (or lie) reflects more on the liar than the person being lied to.
Max sure got Fox News. He showed us that Fox News is guilty is trusting on the integrity of a person's character and representations. Sadly, the only prank Max pulled was on himself and his own reputation.

Who got pranked? Gretchen Carlson saw immediately that Max was not legit, so Fox didn't get pranked.
The only one who will be pranked is Max. The beauty of this prank is that it will follow him for the rest of his life. As a business owner, it is important to do research for all candidates - one resource is to review any history that is available on the internet. Guess what - this one time FAILED prank will stay with Max for the rest of his life.
Max, I hope your Daddy has a nice business that you can take over, because in the real world your actions are documented and stay with you for all to see.
Max ....very successful prank .......on yourself.
