Deerfield

Deerfield Memorial Day Parade

• When: Monday, May 28, 2012, 10 a.m.
• Where: Jewett Park, Deerfield
• Why Go?: Deerfield will hold its annual Memorial Day observance at Jewett Park. After a ceremony at the flag pole in the park, people will join in a parade route to the cemetery on Waukegan Road south of Central for a salute and reading of names of the fallen. From there they will march to the American Legion Hall.

Evanston

Memorial Day Celebration

• When: Monday, May 28, 2012, 10 a.m.
• Where: Fountain Square – Veterans Memorial Plaza, at the intersection of Davis Street and Sherman Avenue in Evanston
• Why Go?: Evanston American Legion Post 42 hosts this assembly, which includes reflections by community leaders, singing and remarks from local veterans groups, as well as appearances by the Evanston Police Honor Guard and Northwestern University NROTC color guard and rifle team.

Glencoe

Glencoe Memorial Day Parade & Service

• When: Monday, May 28, 2012, 10:30
• Where: Veteran’s Park, near the Glencoe Union Church. In case of rain, the service will be held at the Glencoe Park District Takiff Center.
• Why Go?: To honor those who served our country. Plus, who needs an excuse to attend a parade?
• Pricing: Free

Glenview

Glenview Memorial Day Parade

• When: Monday, May 28, 2012, 9 a.m.
• Where: The parade starts at the Village commuter parking lot at the corner of Grove and Depot streets, proceed on Grove Street to Pine Street, then south on Pine to Glenview Road, and then east on Glenview Road to the Veterans Memorial at the corner of Glenview Road and River Drive.
• Why Go?: Dignitaries from American Legion Post 166 will participate, as well as the Glenview fire and police department color guards, the Glenview Police Department Color Guard; Glenbrook South High School and Mapple Junior High School marching band, and Brownies, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts from various Glenview troops. Highland Park

Memorial Day Ceremony

• When: Monday, May 28, 2012, 11 a.m.
• Where: The bandshell and monument at Laurel and Prospect.
• Why Go?: Veterans from American Legion, Jewish War Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars will honor fallen soldiers.
• Pricing: Free.

Kenilworth

Village of Kenilworth Memorial Day Celebration

• When: Monday, May 28, 2012, 2pm
• Where: Warwick Road just south of Kenilworth Avenue.
• Why Go?: For one year only, the annual Kenilworth Memorial Celebration will be held on the actual holiday, Monday, May 28.  The parade will start at 2:00 pm, followed by a memorial service at Memorial Park.  Immediately following the service there will be a picnic on the front lawn of the Kenilworth Club hosted by the Kenilworth Boy Scouts.

Northbrook

Northbrook Memorial Day Parade

• When: Monday, May 28, 2012, 10:30 a.m.
• Where: The parade starts at the corner of Cherry Lane and Western Avenue. It will continue east on Cherry/Church to the Village Green.
• Why Go?: The traditional American Legion Memorial Day ceremony will take place at Village Green Park immediately following the parade and bands from local schools also will participate.

Skokie

Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center Special Exhibit

• When: Monday, May 28, 2012, weekdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekends 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Where: 9603 Woods Drive.
• Why Go?: The museum is sponsoring a special exhibit, "Ours to Fight For: American Jews in the Second World War," which celebrates the achievements of Jewish men and women who were part of the war effort. Additionally, in honor of those who serve, all active or retired military personnel and their families will receive complimentary museum admission through June 17.
• Pricing: General Admission is $12.00; Seniors (65+): $8.00Students (12-22): $8.00; Children (5-11): $6.00

Wilmette

Village of Wilmette Memorial Day Parade

• When: Monday, May 28, 2012, 10:30am
• Where: Lake Avenue and Ridge Road
• Why Go?: The Village of Wilmette and Huerter Post #46 of the American Legion will host a Memorial Day parade featuring Veterans, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, the Wilmette Police and Fire Departments, and more. Once at the Village Hall, a brief ceremony will be held near the Wilmette war memorial.  The parade will begin at 10:30 am at Lake Avenue and Ridge Road, proceeds east to Park Avenue, south to Wilmette Avenue and conclude at Village Hall at 1200 Wilmette Avenue.

St. Joseph 5k Jubilee Jog

• When: Monday, May 28, 8 a.m. - 11 a.m.
• Where: St. Joseph School 1740 Lake Avenue
• Why go?: The St. Joseph Jubilee Jog is a 5K Run/Walk that promises fun for all ages. The race kicks off at St. Joseph School at the corner of Ridge and Lake and goes through a residential area of Wilmette.

Winnetka

Winnetka Memorial Day Parade

• When: Monday, May 28, 2012, 10 a.m.
• Where: The parade kicks off at the corner of Glendale and Elm Streets and heads east to the Village Green. In case of inclement weather an indoor ceremony will be held at Skokie School, 520 Glendale Avenue.
• Why Go?: This year’s guest speaker is Lieutenant Colonel Ronald J. Tye. Tye is a Chicago native who served in Iraq, where he conducted over 35 combat ground and air movements traversing treacherous areas to reach the extended borders of Iraq.
