The following obituary is from Kelley Spalding Funeral Home.
William T. “Billy” Evans, Sr., 87, of Lake Forest, passed away January 1, 2013.
He was a man defined by his undying devotion to hard work, his family, and his faith. His character spoke volumes without having to say a word. He showed his love by enriching the lives of those around him and didn’t expect any credit in return.
Billy volunteered in the United States Navy where he proudly served as a radio operator, receiving and transmitting Morse code in the South Pacific during WWII.
In 1953, he developed Lad and Lassie clothing store in Wilmette. Billy worked countless hours to turn what was once a small clothing boutique into a successful department store now spanning three generations.
He will be remembered in a different way by all who were lucky enough to have known him in all aspects of his life, from the lake, to the golf course, to the ski hill, or to the church. His legacy will continue through his devoted wife Midge of 60 years, his family home, and the hearts and souls of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Billy will sit at the table with us all on holidays, attend our plays and sporting events, watch us get married and raise children of our own, and he will answer our prayers from Heaven. God Bless you Billy.
Beloved husband of Margaret “Midge” nee Leipsiger; loving father of Meg Evans (Peter Lazare), Mimi Evans, Bill (Ruth), Julie (Jim) Chandler, Patty Evans (Bill Millett), Jim, Ann Evans (Rick Ascher), and Zee (Jim) Barry; cherished grandfather of Sarah and Ben Lazare, Vince, Ted, Luke, and Henry Nasserbakht, Amanda and Will Evans, Steven and Nicole Chandler, Fionna and Liam Millett, Lisa and Elliot Evans, Levi and Geneva Ascher, and Faye and Dean Barry; proud great-grandfather of Kinley Lazare; and dear brother of Robert Evans (Carol Lord) and Virginia (Jack) Burns.
