With both children and grandchildren in the area, family dropping in is a constant for Sylvia Flinn at her Wilmette home. However, when Flinn played host to two siblings early yesterday morning, it was far from blood relatives who stopped by.

In fact, they were two rather small, frightened looking young raccoons who had settled down in Flinn’s dining room some time before 5 a.m., Monday. But Flinn soon showed the two the door. 

“I turned on the light and opened the door and one went out, and one wouldn’t go out,” said Flinn. “He went to the corner, by the door, he or she, whatever...” Flinn ended up helping the second small animal by carrying him out to her front porch.

“I didn’t want to hold him, though, like a baby. So I picked him up by his back and he didn’t like that. But it was far enough down so he couldn’t get me on the arm, and then, when he did get out and see the light on and the other one on the steps, he did go out, ” Flinn continued. 

Reunited after their brief separation, the two raccoons spent the rest of the day, and early afternoon, huddled in a corner of Flinn’s porch. How the two got in and why is a mystery. Flinn said she would soon contact animal control and try to find out.
