Along the North Shore residents have reported several possible cougar sightings this summer. The sighting in Glenview is the year's first in that area.
On Sunday Sept. 23, a resident of the 4400 block of Crescent Lane reported a cougar-like animal near their home on different occasions during the night and day, according to a recent Glenview Police report. The resident witnessed the animal run towards a retention pond near I-294, police say.
On Sept. 12, a Northfield resident reported a possible cougar sighting on South Happ Road in the morning hours. Residents have reported spotting a similar animal in Highland Park, Glencoe and Winnetka throughout the summer.
Residents are urged to use caution and asked to report sightings of suspicious animals immediately. As a cougar’s main prey, deer carcasses should also be reported to local police.
