Season's Treatings in Wilmette: Holiday Goodies

Enjoy some of these seasonal treats offered by local shops and national brands.

As you're running from store to store in search of the perfect gift, you may want a little snack to fuel your day. It's time to break your diet, and enjoy the treats that come but once a year. Whether you want to try seasonal goodies at a local favorite, or a tasty treat from a national chain, Wilmette has you covered.

Below is our flavor-by-flavor breakdown of holiday beverages and baked goods:

Peppermint is as decorative as it is delicious and. When mixed with mocha, espresso and whipped cream, it makes for a coffee concoction crafted around town at Link's Sweet Bean, Alchemy Coffee House, Starbucks and Panera Bread. Each offers their own twist on this holiday favorite. If you're craving peppermint sans coffee, Homer's serves up a seasonal peppermint stick flavored ice cream with a candy cane on the side.

Meanwhile gingerbread is also a popular flavor during the cold winter months, whether its gingerbread men adorning gumdrops buttons, or elaborate gingerbread houses with snow icing rooftops. Link's, Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts offer gingerbread lattes topped with whipped cream and nutmeg. For a breadier take, Panera features a gingerbread bagel, which is sweetly spiced with cinnamon and ginger.

But if you're interested in more unique treats, you can tour town for some local tastes. In downtown Wilmette, Link's makes a holiday coffee blend to brew on Christmas morning, along with a delicious raspberry mocha. Just off the Linden stop, Alchemy provides a blend and an even better white chocolate mocha drink. And if you're traveling down Green Bay Road, Homer's has non-alcoholic eggnog and rum raisin ice cream flavors for the season.

Whether you limit yourself to one treat a day or one treat a week, these Wilmette businesses have enough holiday treats to carry you through the New Year!

One of my favorite holiday treats is shopping in the village and then stopping at Olive Oil for a different and delicious dinner. I don't cook mediteranean but enjoy it when someone else does!!!!
Happy Holidays and a very happy and healthy New Year. Adrienne K, Wilmette
