This traditional stone and brick house, 437 Howard Ave. in Des Plaines, is Patch's Wow House of the week.

From elegant and stately mansions to modern, environmentally friendly abodes, The Chicago suburbs are chock-full of one-of-a-kind homes.

Each week Patch will feature one Wow House that caught our attention. This week a 4,670 square-foot house in Des Plaines takes the title. Click here to check out all the Wow Houses.

This traditional brick and stone house, 637 Howard Ave., was built in 2007, and sits on a deep, professionally landscaped lot, 60 feet by 170 feet, with a patio in the backyard.

The front door opens to a dramatic, two-story foyer, and there are cherry hardwood floors throughout.

The heating and cooling systems are zoned, which means there is a furnace and air conditioning unit for the basement and first floor, and a second pair for the second floor.

The kitchen is decked out with stainless steel appliances, granite countertop, cherry, self-closing, tongue-in-groove cabinets and a pantry. The high-end kitchen opens up to a spacious eating area, and the entire space is 28 feet by 12 feet.

The family room features a cathedral ceiling and surround sound. It also has a wood-burning fireplace with gas starters.

This property, once listed for $1.1 million, is currently listed for $699,000 by Barry Newman at @properties in Winnetka.
