With high temperatures and humidity, residents need to be prepared.

The National Weather Service is forecasting an extended period of extreme heat and humidity in the area this week. Tomorrow’s forecast shows higher temperatures in the upper 90’s with index readings between 100 and 105.

The village of Wilmette has announced that a few area public buildings will be open as cooling centers including the Wilmette Public Library, Community Recreation Center , and theWilmette Police Department .

The village also urges residents to check on the elderly or call the police department's non-emergency number at (847) 256-1200 if they or someone they know are in need of assitance.

ComEd is informing customers of the need to manage energy use during periods of extreme heat due to the increased demand. Running appliances at night, turning off lights and appliances when not in use, keeping televisions and lights away from thermostats, and replacing incadescent bulbs with CFL bulbs are all ways that energy consumption can be reduced.
