8th Annual Fundraiser Celebrates St. Joe's German Heritage
St. Joseph's School's annual Oktoberfest ushered in Fall Saturday for the hundreds of North Shore residents in attendance. This was the eighth year for the event, which recognizes the German heritage of St. Joseph's Church and the area itself.
"St. Joe's Parish was founded by Germans originally," said Anne McKiernan, one of the organizers of the event. "Most of the graves in that cememtery have german names. It's a throwback"

The Oktoberfest celebration incorporates an antiques fair, games, food, live music, face painting, and much more. Proceeds from the event go to benefit St. Joseph's School.

Descendants of German immigrants from Trier, Germany and some more recent German speaking newcomers still live in the neighborhood. Sisters of Christian Charity of Mallinckrot came from Westfalia, Germany. When was the last Mass in German in the church?

We attended the children's activities and antique fair during the day and it was wonderful. The kids from The Rock House playing on the stage were amazing! Thanks to the folks at St. Joe's for planning such a fun event for the entire community!
