Wilmette Blotter: Men Arrested for Fraud, Road-Rage Leads to Battery

These were the major crimes, thefts, burglaries reported by the Wilmette Police Department.
Arrest for Using Fake Cards
Carl D. Bornelus, 24, of 7518 N. Seeley Ave., Chicago, was arrested Aug. 28 for using a forged credit/debit card at Jewel-Osco grocery store, 411 Green Bay Rd.
A wallet containing, cash, identification and credit cards was reported stolen at Corner Bakery in Edens Plaza, 3232 Lake Ave., between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Aug. 22. Unauthorized charges totaling $700 were made on the victim’s credit card. The loss was estimated at $950
A statue of St. Francis was stolen between Aug. 31 and Sept. 4 from 611 5th St., no loss estimate was provided at the time.
A women’s wallet was reported stolen from Carson Pirie Scott, 3232 Lake Ave., on Aug. 27. The owner told police that unauthorized charges were made on her cards. The loss is estimated at $20.
A men’s hybrid bike and bike helmet were stolen from a garage in the 300 block of Oak Circle between 9:34 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Aug. 22. The thieves did not take three other bicycles in the garage. The loss was estimated at $150.
Lost or Stolen Property
A resident reported that his wallet was missing while shopping at Treasure Island Food Store, he last saw his wallet in his shirt pocket at Evanston Hospital, police said.
A man reported that he was involved in a road rage incident with another driver in the 900 block of Yale St. on Sept. 1. The victim told police he was forced to stop by another drive that excited the vehicle, grabbed him by the arms and told him that he could get hurt. The victim attempted to place the driver on the ground when the driver broke loose, displayed a knife to the victim and fled the scene.
Burglary to Motor Vehicle
A GPS unit, sunglasses and cash were stolen from an unlocked car parked in the 600 block of Central Avenue between Aug. 26 and 27. The loss was estimated at $300.
Some $2 in change was taken from an unlocked car parked in the 1300 block of Maple Avenue between Sept. 2 and 3.
The green on the fifth hole at Wilmette Golf Course, 3900 Fairway Dr., was damaged between Aug. 27 and 28. The pin marker and cup were also taken. The damage is estimated to cost $150.
The window of a car parked in the Metra lot, 722 Green Bay Rd., was shattered between 5:43 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Aug. 27. Police say no entry was made into the vehicle.
A gas meter adjacent to the playground at Harper School, 1133 Dartmouth St., was reported damaged on Aug. 27. The plastic cover on the meter was broken off. The damage is estimated to cost $50.
