Wilmette Police Arrest Oak Park Doctor Who Offered Drugs for Sex

Craigslist ad led to Joshua Baron's bust.

A 37-year-old Oak Park physician has been arrested by Wilmette police for allegedly offering illegal prescription medicine in exchange for sexual favors, according to a crime alert released Friday.

Joshua Baron has been charged with an attempt to deliver a controlled substance and for the solicitation of a sex act, following an online narcotics investigation. Undercover officers had responded to a Craigslist ad in which Baron offered medicine for trade, according to the report.

"We will routinely check CraigsList and other online sites for criminal activity that will pertain to this area," Wilmette Sgt. Kyle Murphy told Patch. It was during one of these regular patrols that officials came across Baron's ad, according to Murphy, who worked on the case. After corresponding via email for one week, Baron traveled to Wilmette for the exchange, where he was arrested by authorities Thursday afternoon.

Baron's  court date has been set for Jan. 21 at 1:30 p.m.

According to a Rush University Medical Center profile, Baron is a pediatric neurologist with "a particular focus in epilepsy, particularly in neonatal epilepsy and the interactions between sleep and epilepsy. He has ongoing trials in examining sleep symptoms in children with epilepsy, as well as studies to evaluate novel pharmaceuticals."

Baron and his family were recently featured in a Wednesday Journal, a weekly newspaper in Oak Park, story that outlines their quest to adopt a blind Chinese boy, and the family maintains a blog called "The Baron Life," last updated on Wednesday.

A woman who answered the phone at the Baron home on Friday said she was "deeply hurt" by the accusations but declined further comment.
