Wilmette Police Blotter: Jewish Woman Reports Swastika Car Carving

A Wilmette woman told police that someone had removed a Chicago Jewish Day School sticker from her car and had attempted to carve a swastika into the driver’s door while the car was parked in front of her home, located in the 600 block of Harvard Street, between 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 14 and 6:30 a.m. Oct. 15. According to the police report, the responding officer could not determine whether the scratches on the car were an attempt to draw a swastika.
Police estimate nearly $500 worth of damage was inflicted on the front of a home located in the 2700 block of Hawthorne Lane after the house was ‘egged’ sometime between 6:45 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 13. According to the police report, the woman told police that she had been out to eat during the incident but that her children had been home at the time. The police report states that the paint on the house had been damaged in several locations.
An unknown offender poured maple syrup on the glass door of a home located in the 400 block of Prairie Avenue sometime shortly before 9:11 p.m. on Oct.20. A man living at that residence told police that after someone rang the doorbell to his home, he went to the front door and noticed maple syrup had been thrown on a glass door. The officer reported later recovering an empty maple syrup bottle from the front lawn of the residence.
A woman reported to police on Oct. 22 that her $595 Burberry quilted coat had been stolen from Jon Kailey Salon, 1166 Wilmette Ave, sometime between 3 p.m. and 5 p .m. on Oct. 5. According to the police report, the woman said she had left her coat on a rack by the front door, but, by the time she left the salon, her coat was missing. The salon has reportedly attempted to contact customers who were known to be in the business that day and has also offered to reimburse the victim by filing an insurance claim.
A license plate valued at $100 was reported stolen off the back of a Harley Davidson motorcycle parked in the 500 block of Lawler Avenue sometime between 6 p.m. on Oct. 9 and 6:41 p.m. on Oct. 16.
A Wilmette woman living in the 300 block of Ridge Road contacted police on Oct. 16 to report that someone opened a Comcast account using her name and social security number in order to get cable television. According to the police report, the woman told police that on Sept. 17, she had contacted Comcast to get cable television but was informed that an account had already been opened in her name. Comcast reportedly informed the woman that she could not receive cable service from them until the matter was resolved. The cable company told the woman the street address belonging to the account that had used her name and social security number, and the woman told police she believes that a woman for whom she used to babysit had opened the account.
