More than 1,600 votes were cast in last week's competition and Deerfield's Christine Stitcher was named Patch Athlete of the Week.
The nominees for North Shore Patch Athlete of the Week, Feb. 13 - Feb. 19:
Artie Bess, senior, wrestling, Deerfield – Bess took third place in the 220-pound division at the Class 3A wrestling state championships last weekend. Bess beat Mt. Carmel junior David Denne 3-1 in the third-place match and finished the season with a record of 40-2.
Lauren Kriz, senior, girl’s basketball, Loyola Academy – Kriz tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds in the Ramblers’ 46-31 win over Evanston in the Class 4A Evanston Regional finals. The Ramblers moved to 23-7 on the season and defeated Evanston for the second time this season.
Andrew McAuliffe, junior, boy’s basketball, Glenbrook North – McAuliffe seems to be recovering from his fractured patella just in time for the playoffs as the junior center scored 14 points in the Spartans’ 67-44 win over Maine East. The victory clinched the CSL North outright for Glenbrook North.
Mariyah Henley, senior, girl’s basketball, Niles North – Henley had a game-high 25 points in the Vikings’ 57-40 playoff victory over Maine West. Niles North beat the No. 9 seed Warriors in the regional semifinals and avenged a loss to Maine West in the regular season.
Elana Benishay, sophomore, girl’s gymnastics, New Trier – Benishay finished eighth on the balance beam event at the gymnastics state championships last weekend. She scored a 9.25 in the finals after qualifying with a 9.2 earlier in the meet.
