As summer winds down, a slew of garden-fresh produce comes into season. Radicchio, plums, winter squash and turnips are some vegetables that are harvested fresh in September. Other end of summer crops includes apples, Asian pears, and peaches. The Wilmette French Market (Metra parking lot, east side of tracks at Central Ave.) provides consumers a convenient choice to buy the season’s ripest produce in their Saturday market.

The Wilmette French Market continues to bring shoppers a diverse array of locally produced products. First Orchards (Michigan) offers a variety of goods including fruits, vegetables, cider and eggs. Stivers Coffee (Chicago) sells their coffee, cocoa, tea and smoothies. Also at the market is Froelich’s Finest Fruit & Veg, based out of Michigan providing cut and potted flowers and painted pumpkins in the fall.

Running through November 3, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Wilmette French Market houses a vast variety of unique vendors selling goods ranging from flowers to freshly baked bread. Saturdays in downtown Wilmette is now a place to shop fresh, embodying the practices of European culture.
