"If you have any interest in improv comedy history, this is a show not to be missed." -Hy Bender, Best New York Comedy Some kids dream of running away from home and coming to New York. Jeffrey Sweet did just that, only to learn that he needed to go back to Chicago find the artists and ways of working that would affect him for the rest of his life. You Only Shoot the Ones You Love is a 75-minute solo show that weaves an anecdotal history of improvisation and comedy in the 20th century. A veteran of the Chicago theatre scene, Jeffrey Sweet has been represented as a playwright by such hits as Flyovers, Porch, The Value of Names, The Action Against Sol Schumann, Bluff, and Court-Martial at Fort Devens (which have also played in New York and onstage around the country and around the world).  He also co-wrote the musical I Sent A Letter To My Love with Melissa Manchester.  Among the actors who have appeared in his plays are William Petersen, Jon Cryer, Amy Morton, Gary Cole, Shelley Berman, Richard Kind, Helen Hunt, and Byrne Piven. His book on Second City, Something Wonderful Right Away, was called "a classic" by the Chicago Tribune. He has also written several hundred hours of television, winning a Writers Guild Award, and scripting the Peabody Award-winning Hallmark presentation, Pack of Lies, which starred Ellen Burstyn and Alan Bates.  He serves on the Council of the Dramatists Guild. Tickets $18 in advance, $20 at the door
