Korak Receives Service Award from Wilmette Harbor Rotary

Greg Korak has been named the recipient of the Steve Jevelian Community Service Award.  He is shown here with his wife Carol (right) and Carolyn Jevelian, wife of Steve who was a vibrant member and leader of our club until his death in 2005.

In introducing Greg, George Vandervoort enumerated just a few of Greg's contributions to the community:  Greg has been a tutor for Family Matters for ten years, and currently serves on their board of directors.  He also began tutoring last year for Connections for the Homeless, the parent organization that oversees Hilda’s Kitchen and the homeless shelter.  He has been teaching Sunday School close to 20 years.

Greg regularly volunteers for Family Promise, and last year he began volunteering for Adaptive Adventures, which offers outdoor activities like kayaking and skiing, for those who may have suffered the loss of a limb or other trauma.  Activities usually include participants front he Wounded Warrior program.

He has been to Belize twice to contribute his time, talents and finances in support of Holy Cross Anglican School on Ambergris Key.  These blogs outline the trips:  http://korakfaminbelize.blogspot.com/ and http://julieinbelize.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html.

Greg is Director of Global Engineering for Avon, where he has worked for 36 years.  He and Carol met while playing on the team's racquetball team.  After they were married, they lived in Buffalo Grove for two years, before moving to their current home in Wilmette.  Clearly, Greg is a steady guy. He and Carol have two daughters, both of whom are pursuing advanced college degrees.

Greg has an amazing record for helping others.  He exemplifies the Rotary motto Service Above Self, and The Rotary Club of Wilmette Harbor is proud to name Greg the newest recipient of the Steve Jevelian Community Service Award.
