Record tally for Wilmette Harbor Rotary Club wine gala means more funds for good

WILMETTE, Illinois – The Rotary Club of Wilmette Harbor raised more than $13,000 at its sixth annual Wine Gala held May 21 at The Fresh Market in Wilmette, club leaders say.

The total from tickets sales, a silent auction, and donations topped the results of last year’s wine gala, said George Pearce of Wilmette, co-chair of the event.  The result: the club has fresh funds to support local and international charities in the upcoming year.

"The Rotary Club of Wilmette Harbor Wine Gala seems to get better every year. The food and wine selection were fabulous and the opportunity to socialize with some of the most interesting locals made the evening all the more exciting,” Pearce said.

“Thanks to the generosity of Fresh Market and its wine distributor [Wirtz Beverage] – the funds raised will go directly to support people in need through our community and international grants.”

Tickets were $37.50 per person for admission to the premiere fundraising event at 3232 Lake Avenue in Wilmette, which invited participants to sample a wide arrange of fine wines paired with gourmet appetizers.  Admission included discounts on wine purchased at Fresh Market, and a raffle ticket for a chance to win baseball tickets, meals at local restaurants, and other sought-after prizes.

"It was truly an enjoyable evening for everyone involved. It underscored what a vital and caring community we have in Wilmette and neighboring communities," Dr. Barry Miller of Lake Forest, event co-chair said.

Sheri Miller of Chicago, who recently joined the Wilmette Harbor Rotary Club, agreed.  "The evening reinforced why I join Wilmette Harbor Rotary,” Miller said. The event was filled with fun, interesting people serving the community to make the world a better place."

Recently, the club announced its 2014 community grant recipients, whose support comes – in large part – from last year’s Fresh Market and Wirtz Beverage-supported wine gala. This year’s grant recipients:  Adaptive Adventures, Alliance for the Great Lakes, Boys Hope Girls Hope, Career Resource Center, CJE Senior Life, Connections for the Homeless, Designs for Dignity, Erika's Lighthouse, Family Matters, Family Promise, Family Service Center, Haven for Youth, L.I.N.K.S., Literature for All of Us, Loyola Academy, Meals at Home, Northwestern to Benefit Special Olympics, Orchard Village, Supplies for Dreams, The Warming House, and Wilmette Youth Connection.
