  • Why Go?: Brian Spear, retired Director of Scientific Affairs at Abbott Laboratories’ Department of Global Pharmaceutical Research and Development, will discuss “New Drug Discovery: How and Why."  Dr. Spear’s recent publications have addressed various aspects of genetics and genomics, including personalized medicine in drug development and patient management, and ethical and regulatory issues relating to pharmacogenetics.

  • Why Go?: Co-sponsors WPL's Greener Choices and the Integrated Global Studies program at New Trier will host a screening of The Vanishing of the Bees. This 90-minute film is about the world-wide crisis beekeepers face in their commercial honeybee operations.

  • Where: , 930 Greenleaf Ave, Wilmette
  • Why Go?: The Woman’s Club of Wilmette will be holding its 50th Annual Book Review Series in May. This year, the series includes three reviews. The first review will take place on May 2nd with a look at the book, "The Man in the Rockefeller Suit" (author, Mark Seal). Denise Philpot will be conducting the review of this stranger-than-fiction twist that documents the 30-year run of a con man.

  • Where: , 1515 Sheridan Rd, Wilmette
  • Why Go?: With a little imagination, it may seem as if you are shopping the streets of Milan instead of Wilmette, when the merchants of Plaza del Lago host “Night on the Piazza,” Thursday, May 3, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.   Strolling musicians will add music to the air of this Italian-inspired evening of shopping.  Participating merchants will offer Italian specials and other discounts that you will not want to miss!  Additionally, there will be special give-aways at select stores, along with chances to win a variety raffle prizes throughout the evening.
