The best thing about your birthday is that it's all about you. It's the one day a year where you get that verbal 'Get Out of Jail Free' card and can try to bend the universe to your will just by saying "Hey, it's my birthday." 

What to do with all this power? Luckily, Wilmette offers a number of ways to celebrate a birthday in an interesting way. We have a rundown of some of the best local options below for throwing yourself (or someone you love) a good bash. 

Nothing says "party" quite like tequila, and nowhere says tequila quite like Depot Nuevo. Thanks to , General Manager of Depot Nuevo and extremely enthusiastic tequila afficianado, this restaurant has become a go-to for the South American liquor both in Wilmette and the region beyond. As far as birthdays go, this is the place to put down a serious party: the menu features awesome eats like steak and surf and turf with Latin twists, as well as classic Mexican food. Once the eating is done, the fun continues with eight different types of margaritas and dozens of tequilas. 

There's a reason that bowling alleys never went away. It's not the fact that you have to pay money to wear someone else's shoes or the ample opportunities to humiliate yourself in front of your friends. The simple fact of that matter is that it's really fun to drink to excess and then throw things. We've talked about the here at Wilmette Bowling, but we haven't yet discussed the party. And what a party it is! On Friday and Saturday nights, the action goes until 11pm. There's league bowling here, and if you drink enough of the 20 or so varieties of beer and wine on tap, you'll be trying to convince everyone you're with to sign up. And there's no reason not to: Wilmette Bowling is an awesome time, and those 110 point games aren't going to bowl themselves.

CJ's pretty much has it all: food, music, friends and drinks. That's the definition of a party isn't it? For over 20 years, this bar and music venue has had satisfied fans stumbling to and from the nearby Metra station both before and after shows. Home to a wide variety of musical styles, CJ's really does offer something for everyone. Rock fans are as apt to rub elbows here as they are with bluegrass or jazz fans. The great thing about this place is the recurring weekly events. There's a bit of a taste of our neighbor state to the north in their Friday fish fry, and Thursday night karaoke is a huge hit here too. Featuring $4 martinis, the fun begins here at 8:30 p.m.  CJ's also has a private party room in case you need to celebrate separately from the masses, and there's never a cover.

Cigars are synonymous with celebration. Everyone  remembers the image of a father of a newborn handing out cigars to celebrate the birth of his child. The classic tradition gets a new spin when your friends take you out to celebrate with a cigar at Cigary International. Sure, you're not a newborn, but that doesn't mean you don't deserve a cigar anyway: besides, you're old enough to enjoy them now. Regular customers of Cigary rave about the lounge. The leather chairs, the HD television, and the smoke cleaner make for a very relaxing and comfortable experience, and the inventory of a variety of cigars right there at your fingertips makes this a a smoke lover's dream. The lounge is BYOB, so you and your pals can hit the liquor store for whatever you like just a block away before coming over to puff on a stogey. The smoking lounge does charge a $10 per person cover.
