Forget about heading south, plan your get away locally.

Want to spend quality time with the kids on spring break without a long commute? Check out these ideas on where to hang out in the area.

  1. Take a tasting tour of Chicago's best pizza places. Follow this newly-created map by Serious Eats' Slice pizza blog for directions.
  2. Catch Bill Cosby at the Chicago Theater. Catch the veteran stand-up performer this Friday for $37.50 to $57.50. You can also catch controversial Charlie Sheen and Sarah Silverman at the same venue at later spring break dates.
  3. Enroll the kids in one of Wilmette Park District's Spring Break CampsGive them a taste of some Summer programming.
  4. Sign up for the Chicago Bulls Sox Training Academy. The White Sox offer baseball and softball camps in Chicago-area suburbs, including Lisle, Tinley Park, La Grange and Glen Ellyn.
  5. Turn the tykes into chefs at the Kids' Table. Children can build their own cookies or take classes on superfoods.
