Talking Green

Wilmette-Kenilworth Patch introduces our latest column on local, environmental living by Go Green Wilmette.

This is the first of a new bi-monthly column associated with the Wilmette’s green organization, Go Green Wilmette.

Go Green Wilmette began when, in 2005, a group of six energetic, dedicated women committed themselves to creating a more environmentally friendly Wilmette. Beth Drucker accepted the leadership role and ultimately became president of the group, which was founded in 2006.  Since that time, Go Green Wilmette has expanded in size and scope, currently reaching 850 local households with an e-newsletter.

Working in cooperation with the Village of Wilmette, the Wilmette Public Library, the Wilmette Park District, the Wilmette School District, Wilmette businesses and other groups, Go Green Wilmette offers educational activities that cover a wide range of environmental issues as well as providing information on nonpartisan actions that improve the community, the nation and the world we live in.

From Go Green Wilmette’swebsite, gogreenwilmette.org: “Our mission is to raise environmental awareness in the Wilmette community and to inspire residents to take action to make Wilmette a more earth friendly place to live. We offer educational seminars, Wilmette-specific green resources, film showings, environmentally focused gatherings, an annual spring environmental symposium and various other activities.”

As a part of Go Green Wilmette’s mission, future columns will provide information on a wide variety of green topics including: Go Green Wilmette sponsored events; suggestions about energy use; where to find green products; secrets of organic foods; and other topics that you, our readers, request. Look for this column to return on Wednesday, Feb. 2. And be sure to mark your calendars now for Go Green Wilmette’s annual green fair, “Going Green Matters” on March 13th , 1:00pm-5:00pm.

Check Goinggreenmatters.org for updated information on this exciting event.
