Wilmette Library Visitor Wins National Trivia Contest, Trip to Baseball Hall of Fame

The Wilmette resident took his father and son along for the memorable vacation.

The following information was provided by the Wilmette Public Library:

This past summer Wilmette resident Stuart Wolf noticed a sign at the Wilmette Public Library announcing a national baseball trivia contest called “Step Up to the Plate.” He entered the contest, and last month found himself — along with his son and his father — as the contest’s grand prize winner on a V.I.P. tour of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Wolf knew that his father, 86-year-old Sherman Wolf of Chicago, who once worked for the Chicago White Sox, had always wanted to visit the Cooperstown, New York, Hall of Fame. This, plus Stuart Wolf’s frequent visits to the Wilmette Public Library, led him to enter the weekly online trivia contests.

The contest, co-sponsored by the American Library Association and the National Baseball Hall of Fame, invites participants to use library resources to answer a series of trivia questions. The winning entry is drawn at random from all the correct responses, and he grand prize winner receives a trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

While the two elder Wolfs usually root for the White Sox, Wilmette Junior High eighth grader William Wolf, a Cubs fan, accompanied his father and grandfather on the trip.

However, the Wolf family does agree about ways to take full advantage of the library: attending programs, checking out books and using library resources to do research for work and school.

“I am impressed by everything my library has to offer,” said Stuart Wolf. “As a family, we are very fortunate to have such a great library that provides resources for all our different needs.”
