Wilmette Surgeon Receives 2013 Distinguished Citizen Award

District 39 Educational Foundation will honor Dr. Robert Higgins at a special Foundation reception on April 25.

 

Wilmette Public School District 39's Educational Foundation will award Dr. Robert Higgins with the 2013 Distinguished Citizen Award during a special reception on April 25, according to the foundation’s website. 

Dr. Higgins, a heart and lung transplant specialist and a cardiothoracic surgeon, is the sixth recipient of the Distinguished Citizen Award, which honors local community members who have made an exceptional contribution to the community and the world.

The Wilmette resident and father of three is known within the District 39 community, as a coach of youth football, baseball and lacrosse, and has also lectured on the cardiovascular system through examination and dissection in the biology labs. 

Dr. Higgins currently serves as the John H. and Mildred Lumley Medical Research Chair and Director of the Comprehensive Transplant Center at Ohio State University. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine.
