The Wilmette Historical Museum and the Historic Preservation Commission will host the 19th annual Preservation Awards Ceremony on Sunday, October 16th, from 2:00 -3:30 p.m., at the Wilmette Historical Museum, 609 Ridge Road. The event is free and open to the public. No reservations are necessary and light refreshments will be served.

This fall, residents of Wilmette were invited to nominate buildings, gardens and/or landscapes that reflected or enhanced the historic character of the Village. The nominations were judged by a panel of preservation professionals in September. At the Awards Ceremony, the owners of the winning properties will receive certificates of recognition from the Wilmette Historic Preservation Commission. Eligible categories were stewardship, restoration, sympathetic addition and new construction.

Following the awards ceremony, Susan Benjamin will speak about Wilmette’s lakefront, with special emphasis on some historic homes along the lake, Wilmette harbor and the Coast Guard station. Ms. Benjamin is an architectural historian with a career that spans over thirty years in a broad variety of preservation activities. She is the principal of Benjamin Historic Certifications.
