'Idol' Semifinalist Hails from Wilmette

Before he became a Californian, Casey Abrams was originally from the North Shore.

One of the 12 remaning male performers on "American Idol" called Wilmette home once upon a time.

Casey Abrams, 20, may currently reside in Idyllwild, Calif., but he the North Shore can "claim" the crooner, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The scruffy, jazzy singer auditioned in Austin for the shows 10th season, and has since gone on to swoon judges with performances of songs like "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." Last Tuesday, Abrams returned to the stage after being hospitalized for severe stomach pains to sing "I Put a Spell on You." His rendition garnered high praise from one judeg in particular.

“You’re sexy,” judge Jennifer Lopez said. “You’re going to redefine what this whole thing is.”
