VIEWFINDER: New Trier Seniors Showcase Artwork

Student Maxwell Perkins received the Nancy Joyce Murray Memorial scholarship for his video work.

New Trier hosted its annual Nancy Joyce Murray Memorial Scholarship Exhibition for seniors March 10 at the Brierly Gallery. Dozens of students presented their work, which included an array of mediums such as videography, photography and painting, for a chance to win the $600 award.

First place was awarded to Maxwell Perkins for his black and white video work. "His work is profoundly beautiful," Kathy Pilat, who teaches AP studio art at New Trier, told Patch.

Meanwhile Lindsay Law received the Juror's Choice Award for her photography. Additionally, seven students were singled out for distinction, including Chloe Bacon, Charlie Shoup, Grace Kim, Annie Irwin, Claire Bartlett, as well as Julia Stoller and given $25 gift certificates to Dick Blick.

The art was judge for three hours by local artist Pamela Bannos and Jessie Mott. The annual art showcase is in honor of Nancy Joyce Murray, a former art student who, after graduating, passed away after being struck by a drunk driver.

Flip through the gallery to see the opening and the students' work. The work will be on display through March.
