Make This Holiday Season a Green One

Consider buying and driving less and recycling more.

Go Green Wilmette members want to wish to entire Wilmette community a wonderful holiday season. With thoughts about keeping our community green, the current Go Green Wilmette Newsletter - click on NEWS - has some wonderful suggestions, a few of which are included below. Note the information on recycling Styrofoam and holiday lights, which is especially helpful.

There are so many ways to celebrate holidays in a more sustainable way: buy less, drive less, convert to LED lights. Some exciting new ideas can be seen by visiting Sierra Club's green holiday tips, checking out The Nature Conservancy's green holiday blog or watching the creative green holiday videos at greenplanet.com.

You will also be amused watching the way the world recycles.

Relax with friends and family instead of running out to get those last few gifts. Consider the environmental impact of every gift you buy (or decide not to buy) and the planet will celebrate with you.

When you begin using your 2012 calendar, mark these dates:

Jan. 24: Ingredients film screening, , 1 and 7 p.m.

Jan. 30: The Climate Crisis 2012 Update, Wilmette Public Library, 7 p.m.

Wishing you a healthy, sustainable New Year.
