New Sushi Spot Planned for Central Street in Evanston

Coast Sushi Bar in Bucktown is planning to open a second location.

A Bucktown sushi restaurant is planning to open a second location off Central Street in Evanston, at the former site of Hota Restaurant.

Coast Sushi Bar is taking over the space at 2545 Prairie Ave., according to Paul Zalmezak, economic development coordinator for the city of Evanston.

Currently located at 2045 N. Damen Ave. in Chicago, Coast Sushi Bar’s menu includes a variety of nigiri, sashimi and maki dishes, as well as Asian soups, salads and seafood appetizers. The restaurant is also BYOB.

Chicago Magazine listed Coast Sushi Bar in a review of the best 30 restaurants in Chicago where you can get a great meal for under $30

“Straight-up sushi like a crispy salmon skin roll is fresh, tight, and gloriously cheap ($6),” wrote reviewer Jeff Ruby. “The sprawling menu’s pricier options, like the po’ boy roll—a lovely mess of whitefish tempura, unagi, masago, tempura crumbs, and eel sauce—are massive beasts.”

Serving contemporary American fare, Hota opened on Jan. 30 and closed abruptly in August. The Cook County Sheriff’s Office posted an eviction notice on the door on Sept. 4.

Jonadab Silva and his wife, Erin Silva Winston, operated Jacky's on Prairie, the original restaurant at the site, for two years before they reopened the restaurant as Hota last year.
