Palatine Blockbuster Video Closing Sunday

Liquidation sales are in progress at Blockbuster locations in Palatine and in Buffalo Grove.

The Palatine Blockbuster Video store at 780 W. Euclid Avenue will be closing its doors for good this Sunday.

Blockbuster’s parent company, Dish Network, announced last month plans to close about 300 stores across the nation, the Huffington Post reported. The company also closed about 500 stores in 2012, according to the website.

Around 500 stores will remain after this round of closures, the Huffington Post reported.

Liquidation sales are currently underway at the Palatine location, in addition to Buffalo Grove’s Blockbuster Video store, where movies, video games, candy and even store fixtures are priced to sell.

Items in the store are marked up to 70 percent off. The liquidation sale in Palatine ends Sunday, and the sale in Buffalo Grove will run through March 24, an employee said.

Blockbuster also lends videos through kiosks in select markets, but according to its website, there are no video vending machines within 50 miles of Palatine and Buffalo Grove.

Those who want to rent movies can still find them at Redbox Kiosks, located at Dominick's, Jewel and Walgreens stores in Palatine and the surrounding suburbs.

What a shame. i used to get my best movie reviews through the people at BB Video's, who are well informed and watch a lot of movies. Now i will have to drive farther for first class treatment and reviews from BB video workers. The Lack of person to person vanishes with Dish network, netflix & such.

I always feel bad for the folks who work at closed down places. No jobs to replace the ones they are losing.
