Photo of the Day: Downtown Businesses Hold Holiday Open House

Wilmette Village Center stores kicked off the season with treats for shoppers.

Shoppers flocked to downtown Wilmette Thursday night to get a jump start on gift shopping at Wilmette Village Center's Holiday Open House.

Stores stayed open from 5 to 9 p.m. and offered discounted merchandise, refreshments, drawings and other incentives for customers to stop in and stay a while. Participating businesses included , which offered discounts on speakers and 3D demos, and , which gave away a sterling silver charm bracelet and served eggnog with holiday cookies.

At , women lined up before the event started waiting to get makeup applications from pros from Chicago's Barneys New York.

"It was busy, very busy," said owner Randi Tolsky-Schwartz. "Women love to get their makeup done."
