Beauty & Balance Salon Adds Staff & Services - Seven Years and Still Growing on Green Bay Road

Winter 2014 will go down in the record books as one of the coldest and snowiest on record, but the harsh weather has not slowed down the owners of Beauty & Balance Salon (640 Green Bay Road).  Salon co-owners and sisters Kelly and Dawn Stobart have used the first months of 2014 to add new staff and services to their already talented group of hair care professionals in preparation for a busy spring.  Clients can now book an appointment with new colorist Erin Greene, who is also a Goldwell Color educator, and a cut with new stylist Ruanna Howard, who is described by the Stobarts as “a visionary.”   In addition, for the first time in the salon’s 7-year history, Beauty & Balance has added manicures to its list of salon services with new staff member Vercinda Houston.

“Our salon is growing, but we’re growing personally too,” comments co-owner Dawn Stobart, who gave birth to her first child in early December 2013.  “We have developed such great relationships within this community, and we have realized our business is not all about hair.  It’s about connecting with people—clients, employees, friends, family.”

“Every year is a surprise and we never know who we will meet along the way,” added Kelly Stobart, who is the co-owner responsible for identifying annual charitable giving opportunities for the salon.  In November 2013, Beauty & Balance participated in the “Pay It Forward Care Bag Drive.”  Clients responded generously to the salon’s request for items for care bags, which were donated directly to homeless citizens in the Chicago area by local painter and friend of the salon Gene Pellegrene.

Education and training continue to be a priority for the Stobarts, and staff are encouraged and supported financially in taking classes to enhance their skill set.  The co-owners also believe in encouraging personal growth and kicked off the New Year by taking the entire staff to an Aveda Education seminar with author and customer service expert John Dijulius.   Beauty & Balance Senior Colorist Jeff Ashlock (also a Goldwell Color educator) and new colleague Erin Greene recently attended a Goldwell training seminar to update coloring techniques and to identify spring trends in color.  “Brighter colors, coppers and strawberries, are going to be hot this spring,” Jeff noted.  “Styling-wise we’ll be seeing geometric shapes, strong fringe, and versatile styles that can be converted into different looks depending on your mood.”

Beauty & Balance Salon uses and carries top hair care products from Oribe, Aveda, and Goldwell.  Periodically, the salon carries special seasonal skin care products from Aveda, and is currently featuring the company’s Spring Stress Fix Body Cream to help clients prepare for the warm days ahead.  Aveda’s Earth Month soy candles will be available for purchase throughout April and all proceeds will be donated to Aveda’s charity of choice, the Great Lakes Water Alliance.
