Northfield-based Orren Pickell Building Group is pleased to announce that Betsy Williams has joined the firm’s architectural department. “Betsy’s exceptional and wide-ranging architectural experience as well as her focus on environmentally-conscious design have resulted in many successful projects,” says Orren Pickell, president and CEO, Orren Pickell Building Group. “Her skills will be a great asset as we continue to grow and expand.”
Prior to joining Orren Pickell Building Group, Williams held several architect positions, including running her own architectural consultancy in Oak Park, Illinois. She also served as staff architect at Mission Investment Fund, which provides loans for capital projects. For many years, Williams worked at Williams Osler Works, Inc., a design firm she founded in Ann Arbor, MI, specializing in architecture, interior, and landscape projects at a variety of scales. As founder and principal, Williams led an award-winning team whose work was featured in Architectural Record, Wood Design and Building, Metropolitan Home (Winners Issue) and Progressive Architecture (Young Architects Issue).
Williams is the recipient of many honors and awards, including the AIA Michigan Design Award in 2005, the American Wood Council Wood Design Award in 2003, and the Faculty Award for Design Excellence at Miami University, among others. In addition to her work as a practicing architect, Ms. Williams also served as managing director for the non-profit Architecture for Humanity Chicago overseeing all chapter projects. From 2009-2011, she served on the Energy and Environment Commission, a citizen’s advisory commission charged with promoting energy efficiency and resource conservation in the village of Oak Park, IL. Williams received her education at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and Miami University.
