Mather LifeWays Adapts to Older Adult's Changing Expectations with Renovation and Expansion of Mather Place of Wilmette

EVANSTON, IL (May 14, 2014) – Mather LifeWays, a not-for-profit organization committed to creating Ways to Age WellSM, today announced plans to renovate and expand Mather Place of Wilmette to support Wilmette’s growing demand for senior living. Originally opened in 1989, Mather Place of Wilmette, 2801 Old Glenview Road, is currently home to 122 residents, many of whom raised their families in and still have many ties to the North Shore.

“Our vision is to provide a boutique senior living residence that is a preferred choice among adults who wish to remain in or move to the Village of Wilmette,” said Mary Leary, president and CEO of Mather LifeWays. “It’s both exciting and rewarding to enhance our services and commitment to the community.”

The $6.5 million renovation will get underway in late spring 2014, and includes an expanded fitness center and wellness suite; a cinema; updated creative arts studio and sundries shop; expanded multi-purpose spaces, library, and computer center; and enhanced salon and day spa.

The expansion, which will begin in early 2015, is projected to cost approximately $17 million, and will bring a number of new jobs to the community as well. Thirty-nine apartment homes are planned, bringing the total number of apartments to 174. Amenities and comforts which will also be added include:

-       an indoor swimming pool

-       a café, to offer choice in dining locations

-       an “all season” gazebo in a new landscaped courtyard

-       a glass-enclosed space linking two corridors to encourage exercise and group interaction, and bring more natural light into community spaces

-       an additional walking path around the community
