POLAR WHAT!?!?!?

Friend and neighbor Jay Ryan recently sat down with Perry Weinberg President of the Evanston-Wilmette Golf Course Association to get his thoughts on the opportunities that are available to our neighbors on the winter wonderland that is now Canal Shores!
As the polar vortex settles on Evanston and Wilmette, with record snow to date and more in the forecast ….here are some thoughts from Weinberg.

Q: Winter on a golf course? Brrr.
A: Yes, there is still fun to be had here at Canal Shores, your community golf course. We have acres of snow with the potential for fun for the whole family.  Canal Shores offers a venue for you to enjoy FREE winter sports.  

Q. Are the paths still open for walking and viewing nature?
A.  We welcome neighbors and friends to walk and enjoy the beautiful scenery -100- year- old trees covered in snow provides a backdrop for unmatched views of the landmark Baha’i Temple. Canal Shores has LOTS of open space. Come out and enjoy winter!

Q. What about man’s best friend? My dog loves snow; can we walk along the course?
A. Absolutely! Bring your dog. Put on your snowshoes. Put on Fido’s booties to protect his paws. Just be aware that your neighbors are enjoying the snowy wonders too!  So, please pick up after your pet and use one of our conveniently located trash cans for disposal!

Q. We love to cross country ski. Can the family enjoy a ski trek down the fairways??
A. The answer is yes, yes, yes. We want you to cross country ski! But, please “mind the greens” – easy to find except under 50 inches of snow!  These are the elevated spots along the course.

Q. What about sledding for kids – the berm near the Baha’i temple is calling their names!?
A. Sounds like fun to me! My grandkids would love it. Be safe and bundle up!

A special note from Perry:  We welcome suggestions and ideas for off-season use of the course! It is here for the enjoyment of our community and belongs to all of us; the Association is just a caretaker!  Get in touch!
