Police: Man in Custody for Burglarizing Eight Cars, Garages

Austin Marcus, 24, was arrested after an cell phone app led police to his location.

An Evanston man is in police custody for felony burglary after allegedly burglarizing seven motor vehicles and one detached garage in Wilmette between July 10 and July 11, police reports state. 

A victim of the burglary told police that his phone — which was stolen in the burglary — had a tracking software application. The app showed that his phone was in Evanston. The Wilmette Police related the information to Evanston Police.

Austin Marcus, 24, was located on the 1900 block of Dempster Ave. in Evanston on July 11. During a search of his person, the stolen phone was recovered. Wilmette Police took custody of Marcus, who admitted during an interview to robbing the vehicles and garages.

Wilmette Police state that on July 11, they took reports of four burglaries to motor vehicles on the 500 block of Koerper Ct., one case of burglary to a detached garage on the 2600 block of Old Glenview Rd. and three incidents of burglary on the 2600 block of Old Glenview Rd.

Marcus is being charged with one felony count of burglary. His bond has been set at $75,000 and his next court date is set for July 23.
