Sheridan Road Underpass and Bike Path Closed through 2013

Construction is underway to upgrade the Wilmette Pump Station

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago has begun work to repair the aging Wilmette Pump Station. Minimal traffic disruption is expected during the project, which is scheduled to be completed December 2013.

According to Marissa V. Landis, assistant director of engineering of the district’s construction division, the district worked closely with representatives from the , the Wilmette Harbor Association, the Wilmette Park District and the Village of Wilmette to minimize the project’s impact on the public.

There will be no road closures on Sheridan Road, though the underpass and bike path adjacent to the Pump Station will be closed for the duration of the project. A small portion of the Peter Jans Golf Course will also be closed to the public as it is used to house the contractor’s office trailers.

Much of the equipment used at the Pump Station dates back to when it was built in 1912. The project will improve the station’s reliability and safety by replacing and repairing parts of the structure and equipment.
