1. Updated: Over 20 Cases of Fraud Linked to Treasure Island in Wilmette

The Wilmette Police Department investigated 22 cases of identity theft, all citing the local Treasure Island grocery store located at 911 Ridge Rd. as the suspected point of theft, according to police reports. Out of the 22 cases, nine reported that their card numbers had been fraudulently used in Texas.

2. Wilmette Native "Already a Rabbi" Before Death At 29

Wilmette native Elissa Froman died at age 29 of Hodgkin's lymphoma. Friends and coworkers remember her dedication to social justice and her unusual ability to build community in the personal and political spheres.

3. Update: 2011 New Trier Grad Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle

Wilson King, a 20-year-old student from Winnetka was killed on April 12 after being hit by a car on the western edge of the University of Denver campus. According to the Denver medical examiner's office, King was struck by a vehicle while walking and pronounced dead at the scene. 

 

4. Battery at Highcrest School

The parents of a 14-year-old male juvenile reported that their son was punched in the face while meeting three subjects behind Highcrest School at 569 Hunter Rd. on March 30, Wilmette Police reports state. After being punched in the face, the offenders took a backpack containing alcohol and cannabis. 

 

5. Updated: 53 Cases of Fraud Linked to Treasure Island

In late April, The Wilmette Police Department handed off the investigation of identity theft cases linked to the local Treasure Island Grocery Store, at 911 Ridge Rd., to the U.S. Secret Service, according to police.

 

6. Memorial Service Set for Wilson King

Memorial services were held April 19 for Wilson Duval King, the 20-year-old New Trier graduate and Winnetka native that died after being struck by a car in Denver.

 

7. Bielinski Maintains Lead Over Basil in Village President Race

Trustee Bob BielinskI was elected to Village President.

 

8. Police: Homeless Subject Reportedly Stealing Laundry

A resident on the 1100 block of Wilmette Ave. reported to police that a homeless person has been stealing laundry, police reports state. The person was gone when police arrived.
