Video: Wilmettans Celebrate Independence Day

Gillson Park Fills With Families For Fun, Games, Fireworks

Wilmette celebrated the Fourth of July Sunday at with rides and games for kids, a variety of area food vendors, live music, and more. It being the Fourth, the night closed with a spectacular firework display. The event is put on by the Wilmette Park District.

Festivities in the park kicked off at 4 p.m. with family fun, including inflatables, pony rides, circus performers, games and a Tastfest of a handful of area restaurants. Many guests set up camp early on the big lawn or beach, picnicking and sharing drinks with friends as they waited for the fireworks to begin.

Shelagh Donoghue, Wilmette Park District's Communications Manager, said, "The celebration is really geared towards families. This is just like a giant block party. People love it."
