Interfaith gathering promotes unity, allows residents to express personal thoughts regarding the day.
Dozens of residents gathered Sunday afternoon with local officials and police and firefighters for a small, yet touching commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The event was coordinated by the Wilmette Interfaith Religious Leaders, a group of leaders from area houses of worship.
Guests to the event had a chance to write or draw what they were feeling on poster boards provided by WIRL. The group is also running an essay contest for grades 9 through 12, asking students to write about their hopes for peace in their generation.
