Wilmette Park District Breaks Ground on Platform Tennis Club

The Wilmette Platform Tennis Club will offer lessons, clubs and leagues for all ages.

The Wilmette Park District has officially broken ground on the Wilmette Platform Tennis Club, a year-round facility with four courts. The complex, which is located at 3551 N. Lake Ave. is expected to open in October.

The Platform Tennis Club will offer two membership options, an in-club and inter-club league play for men and women and lessons for all ages, as well as special events. Platform tennis is also known as 'paddle tennis,' and is the only racquet sport that players can enjoy outdoors in any climate, according to a press release from the Wilmette Park District.

Brad Smith will serve as the club's platform tennis professional. Smith previously worked as a director at the Onwentsia Club in Lake Forest for 10 years. He is ranked 38th in the nation, and has been a member of the Professional Platform Tennis Association for nearly a decade.
