Wilmette Police Blotter: Forged Check, Dog Feces with Note on Porch

Theft

A Glenview resident reported that an unauthorized purchase of $305 was made on her gift card at Carson Pirie Scott, 3200 Lake Ave., on April 1.

An employee of Leonidas Café, 1156 Wilmette Ave., reported that $50 was missing from the register April 21.  The employee had been counting the money from the register before he closed when a male between 30 to 40 years of age with missing front teeth asked him for some tissue and a cup of water. When the employee turned to get the tissue, the male was standing at the counter close to the money. The employee discovered money was missing after the male left the store.

Burglary

A flat screen TV and a pearl necklace were stolen from a house in the 300 block of 4th Street between October 11 and April 18. The burglar gained entry by forcing through a rear window that allowed access to the kitchen. The resident had been away since October. The TV was valued at $350 and no estimate was provided for the jewelry.

A mountain bike and a Samsung cell phone were stolen from a house in the 200 block of 10th Street on April 13. The burglar entered through the unlocked detached garage. No estimates were provided for the items.

A Honda generator was stolen from the 900 block of Forest Ave. between March 28 and April 21. The resident told police that the generator was chained to a beam in her garage, which is typically left unlocked. Police reports that offenders unscrewed the two motion detector lights in the garage. No estimate was provided for the generator.

A resident in the 2000 block of Kenilworth Avenue confronted an intruder with a flashlight inside the home April 21. The intruder, described as a male possibly in his late teens, entered the home via an unlocked rear door and fled when confronted.

A resident in the 900 block of Green Bay Rod reported that he returned home April 1 to find a rear window open. Over the next few weeks, the resident discovered a closet door open and a basement window was broken. No items appear missing from the house.

Fraud

A resident in the 2100 block of Chestnut Avenue reported April 19 that an employee allegedly stole and forged a personal check for $600.

A resident in the 3000 block of Hill Street, who lost her credit card March 12, reported that between March 12 and March 30, four unauthorized transactions totaling about $200 were made on the card. She canceled her card on March 30.

A resident in the 1000 block of Elmwood Ave., reported that two unauthorized purchases were made on his credit card between April 19 and 23.

A resident in the 1000 block of Linden Avenue reported that on April 16 someone attempted to check his bank account balance and transfer funds from the account. The attempt failed because they were unable to properly answer security questions.

Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol

David M. Hartigan, 71, of 529 Earlston Rd, Kenilworth was charged April 21 with driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding following a traffic violation on Lake Avenue.

Criminal Damage

The window of a vacant store in Plaza Del Lago, 1600 10th Street, was shattered between April 18 and 19. The damage is estimated to cost $1,500 and appears to have been caused by a pellet gun.

Possession of Cannabis

Joshua Fox, 20, of 2948 Iroquois Rd., Wilmette, was charged April 22 with driving without lights when required, operating a vehicle with expired registration and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. He was also issued a citation for possession of cannabis. He was stopped at Green Bay Road and 15th Street following a traffic stop.

Police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 900 block of Locust Road and issued an ordinance citation for possession of cannabis to an 18-year-old Kenilworth resident April 23.

Dog Feces on Porch

A resident in the 1900 block of Schiller Ave. told police that between December 2011 to April 22, someone had been leaving dog feces with attached notes on her porch, on the parked cars off the alley and hanging it from their mailbox.

Vandalism

A resident in the 2200 block of Thronwood Avenue reported April 19 that an orange paintball round was shot at the side of the house.

Identity Theft

A resident in the 700 block of Greenleaf Ave., reported that someone attempted to used his personal information to open a credit card but failed because the resident already had a credit card from the company.

A resident in the 400 block of Illinois Road reported that someone attempted to open a credit card using her personal information. No unauthorized transactions were reported at this time.

Missing Items

Several documents containing personal information were reported missing April 20 from a locked cabinet in a home in the 400 block of Highcrest Drive.

A woman reported April 23 that she may have lost her iPhone while shopping at Jewel-Osco, 411 Green Bay Rd.
