Would You Like to See Wilmette Pass Assault Weapon Ban?

Several area towns — including Skokie, Evanston and Deerfield — have been debating various gun bans for their cities. While residents in Evanston and Deerfield have spoken out about assault weapon bans, residents in Skokie have been debating conceal and carry laws.

Deerfield mayor Harriett Rosenthal put up a proposal earlier this week that read "assault weaons should be subject to safe storage and security requirements." In the proposal as it stands now, any individual found guilty of violating the ordiance would be fined between $250 and $1000, with exceptions for self-defense and law enforcement officers and National Guard members.

On June 10, aldermen in Evanston asked the Illinois Law Department to start crafting an ordinance that would prohibit assault weapons in Evanston.

Meanwhile, residents in Skokie debated about conceal and carry laws, with the meeting ending with no decision on the matter.
