Young Readers "Have Book, Will Travel" at Wilmette Library

The Wilmette Public Library kicked off its summer reading program this week. This year's theme - "Have Book, Will Travel" - aims at getting young readers to explore the world without leaving home through reading.

Students up through 8th grade participating in the program are encouraged to read and report on (whether through an essay, a drawing or orally in the library) at least 8 books. They in turn can earn prizes, such as a new book.

Teen and adult readers can also participate in their own clubs. Older readers, upon reading 3 books, can earn gift cards to local businesses including The Rock House and Lawrence Dean's Bakery.

There will also be events throughout the summer for young readers, including story times, arts and crafts and science programs.

Readers can sign up at the library any time this summer, but participants must be a Wilmette or Kenilworth resident, or must attend a Wilmette or Kenilworth school.
