Carrie Nation (1846-1911) was a wife, mother, widow,
entrepreneur (selling miniature pewter hatchet pins), actress, and
lecturer. In an era when women's roles
were limited she was doing it all. Not
only was she a woman warrior but she also was a member of the Temperance
Movement fighting for women's rights, established safe 'cottages' for abused
and needy women and children, founded 'rest homes' for the homeless aged,
crusaded against the sale of alcohol, and destroyed saloons by smashing them
with her hatchet. Jeanmarie Dwyer-Wrigley of National Louis University becomes Carrie Nation to tell her fascinating
story!
